SEO As Easy As
1 – 2 – 3!
Once you know what SEO is, the next baby-step that you’ll want to take, as a blogger or website owner, is to learn about the “segments” of SEO!
These three pieces of SEO work hand in hand to help you rank well. Any time someone talks about “doing SEO” it’s important to understand it in terms of what part of SEO they are doing and soon you will know!
SEO’s 3 Magic Parts
On-Site SEO: This is the physical structure of your site as a whole that affect many pages including the page with the content we are discussing.
Variables such as Domain name, Hosting, Site Title, Site Description, and very importantly use of a “foundation” SEO plugin such as “WordPress SEO” (or the older All in One SEO) or a SEO optimized Theme such as Thesis. A good regiment of interlinking is also recommended. Factors such as site load speeds and design also factor in here.
On-Page SEO: This is the way the piece of content, you hope will turn up in the search results (SERPS) for your readers to find, is written including both content quality and keyword density and placement.
Proper use of keywords in your content is vital. Many of my students that are either novices to SEO or plan to never actually learn it but want to benefit from handy reminders enjoy the SEOPressor plugin which works at this segment.
Off-Page SEO: This is where other sites prove we are awesome by linking to ours. This is called backlinking and linkbuilding is a MAJOR portion of the SEO puzzle.
The prior two segments are “set it and forget it” meaning they are done once and considered “done” whereas for a site as a whole linkbuilding may be a ongoing process forever. The roll it plays in SEO can not be understated.
Some links will happen naturally as your readers actually link to you for the right reasons (this is what Google is trying to reward you for). Other links come about through blog commenting. Commenting on blogs with commentluv actually helps build your backlinks two-fold and is why that is part of Tribe Syndication. SEO also favors links with good anchor text and that are dofollow.
To properly SEO a post you need all three parts of the equation. Skipping one doesn’t work. Even if your building backlinks you need to be doing on page SEO or visa versa.
When a plugin tells you it helps with SEO it’s important to understand which of these three parts it helps (and how much setup it needs before it actually works optimally) before you know if it’s going to help you.
