One of the worst things that happen to bloggers is reaching traffic they wanted but still not making money from it. Even if your blog is monetized with sidebar ads, affiliate baners and in content ads, it doesn’t mean they will convert just because you have traffic.
So to make sure you convert at least some of it to hard cold cash, you can do a few things that will optimize your blog for those conversions.
If you have a lot of posts, I would start with those that have the most traffic. With a lot of traffic going to one page you may be able to optimize it so that a single post makes more money than your whole blog makes at the moment.
Make it clear!
The first thing to do is to make sure what your most wanted response on the post is.
If you are trying to sing up people for a free month of Pro account with Hootsuite, putting Adsense ads on the post is most likely going to kill your conversions. Why? Because there is probably going to be a Hootsuite ad in it or something else related enough for people to click and leave your site.
Don’t work for pennies
You can say that the click will bring you some money but we are talking pennies here. Usually what you make with Adsense from a certain amount of traffic can be turned into double or triple income by switching to affiliate programs of ad buying companies.
Don’t link out
So if you are trying to sell a product using an affiliate program, make sure you don’t have other links in the post.
If you want to link to a related post on your own blog, either make sure the post is also optimized for conversions or link to it towards the end, after a few affiliate links. That way you won’t send traffic away before the visitor even has a chance to click on the affiliate link.
If possible, create custom sidebars with related offers so you don’t lose traffic to random pages and links. For example, if you are an affiliate for Genesis framework, and you are heavily promoting the theme and wanting to sell as many as you can, creating a custom sidebar that will be focused on StudioPress products is a great thing to do.
This way you will have targeted content in the sidebar and people will either click on the links in the post, click on the links in the sidebar or leave the site. If they leave they weren’t interested in buying anyway, but if you give them a lot of chances to click on StudioPress related links, there is more chance they will buy one of the themes.
This goes for any type of affiliate program you are a part of, the more targeted your content and offer is, the more chance you have of selling.
So apply these few tips and see how it goes, you really got nothing to lose and I am sure it will improve your conversion rates :)
