Now With Software Updater

Okay, admittedly the words “software updater” don’t sound all that exciting…

I admit that they should have chosen a much more powerful name!

Sofware Updater is a new feature built into Version 8 of Avast Internet Security that makes sure that security patches and upgrades are applied to OTHER software you may have on your PC.

By now you’re probably sick of trying to manually keep up with all of the “emergency patches” for software like IE, Java, Adobe Reader, etc…. which have repeatedly had issues with huge security holes.

The problem is that generally it may be a week or more before these applications prompt you for an update… leaving you sitting duck.

Now, AIS, as part of it’s update checks, makes sure that THOSE apps stay up to date too!

I will say that Java is still best removed on any day that it is not needed on that particular day. This does not make Java less prone to vulnerabilities but at least makes sure you are patched – pronto – for the ones that Java releases a patch for.

Avast Internet Security is the antivirus that I chose to keep my PCs running in tip top shape.

I love it’s performance. I love its “Gaming Mode” (very useful when running a webinar). I love it’s easy to use interface. I love that it’s light weight.

The only time I’ve faulted them is when I had a friends site that had a false positive and they refused to remove the false positive as they felt the script was more dangerous than anyone else did.

All in all, a great antivirus solution that does a lot to keep your system clean.

Avast company has certainly come a long way and their products are becoming more and more efficient. I use to be the biggest fan of Norton products until their software just started eating up all my memory. I currently use AVG, but the software updater feature is a winner for me. Patching up security flaws and keeping my system up to date is just as important as scanning for viruses.

Hi Kim,

I’m too a big fan of Avast antivirus, I have been using it for last 3 years and never seen any problem at all. I think it’s the best antivirus which protects you from all kind of threats.

The best aspect about Avast antivirus is that it is light weight and it helps the PC to run at a good performance. I have tried out other security applications but they do not serve my purpose. Instead they hold all the reasources and jam the processing speed leading to a slower response time.

Well, i like the new interface, the Software Updater is useful, Browser Cleanup is helpful for beginners, and it’s still one of the best free antivirus tools around.

I also use Avast but I’m have not been aware of this update until I read your post. This new software updater added to Avast is a smart move. It would minimize the manual updating of some apps for users.

Another great article.
