Brainstorming Your Niche
I admit it, I love brainstorming. There’s just something about letting go of all rules, doubts, and judgments and letting your mind explore the possibilities. It’s both freeing and empowering at the same time.
And when you’re brainstorming potential profits, well that just adds to the fun.
When it comes to brainstorming an internet marketing niche or potential business idea there are a few ways to go about it. They depend largely on your comfort level with brainstorming and how you like to organize your thoughts. Here are a few methods to consider.
#1 Good Old Fashioned Pencil and Paper
I admit I still use this method as my primary method for brainstorming. I grab empty notebook and my favorite pen or pencil and I start writing down my ideas. Consider starting with topics you’re interested in.
Don’t judge them for their profit potential or even for what you perceive as a potential interest from others. Just write down what you like, what you know and what you’re good at.
For example, if you’re good at making lasagna, write it down.
#2 Mind Mapping
Mind mapping is a somewhat more abstract way of brainstorming the possibilities. There are both free and paid mind mapping software programs found online or on your mobile device. One example of some free mindmapping software many people like is FreeMind.
Or you can use a piece of paper too.
In the center of the mind map write down the words Potential Niches or something like that. Then for each niche idea create a new branch. You can then create smaller branches coming off of your niche idea for related ideas.
For example, if you’re a cat lover you might create a “Cats” branch. Then from that you might list, Feeding cats, breeding cats, grooming cats, cat health and so on.
Spreadsheets may not seem very freeing, they are in fact quite structured, but they can provide organization to an otherwise unorganized process. And again, you can find free and paid programs online. (One free example is Google Docs.)
Your first column might list niche themes or ideas like the Cat example, your second, third, fourth columns might list potential niche topics like feeding cats and so on.
Of course these aren’t the only three options!
You may decide to dictate your thought process into a voice recorder or you may have another brainstorming method that works for you. When you’re preparing to brainstorm make sure you’re feeling comfortable and creative. If you’re stressed you won’t likely be able to think outside the box. And when you get creative with your brainstorming, that’s when the real potential shows up.
