Create A Buy/Sell/Trade Marketplace In WordPress

wordpress logoDirectory Classified Listings
Are Hot!

This great question comes from Just-Ask-Kim.com reader: Bonnie Brown

“I was wondering if it’s possible to have a buy/sell marketplace on a WordPress website and if you have any suggestions about it. Thanks very much!”

A little investigating (since I haven’t built one of these in a while) turned up these alternatives:

1) WPMU MarketPress (with or without BuddyPress)

2) Easy Digital Downloads with the Commissions extension.

3) WPMU Classifieds

4) Create a directory style site using Gravity Forms

5) Directory Press

Between this combination, you should be able to set up classified sites, directory sites, buy/sell/trade sites, and even Etsy or Ebay-esque style sites.

    Hi Kim,

I often thought of the same question in the back of my mind. Not that I’m ready to do anything like this, but it is just good to know.
Thanks so much for the links! Another great bookmark for me to have in case someone asks the question to me. Of course I always tell them “Just Ask Kim!”

Kim, this is a great list thank you.

I’ve been considering doing something like this for a while now. My only problem is having too many projects that I want to do, I’ll bookmark this for the future.

    Thanks!

This is great! I wanted to add a marketplace to one of my WordPress websites and I wondered what I could possible use. The variants you list look interesting, I’m going to try them.
