“To Infinity…. And Beyond!” – Buzz LightYear (Toy Story)
Facebook, once the “toy” of an elite group of college students, continues its expansion into territory few dreamed was attainable when it was founded in 2004!
Based on data collected in September, Facebook enters October 2012 seeing a BILLION average, active users per month!
While Facebook’s growth is leveling off in the United States, where it has market saturation, Facebook continues to grow wildly in many other countries.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg commemorated the milestone with this post:
“This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.
If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.
Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”
Too bad that hitting 1 Billion users didn’t help Facebook’s stock prices! ;)
Facebook suffers from a common business problem of having generated traffic but inadequately converting that traffic into revenue.
While stocks were briefly up slightly after the announcement of Facebook offers, prices remain troubled by unimpressive revenue generation.
With 600M mobile users, Facebook is well positioned to do “something” in the mobile space.
It will be interesting to see how Facebook tackles the challenges surrounding mobile advertising and revenue generation in the upcoming year.
Do you think we will ever see Facebook hit 2 Billion users?
