For The FB 20% Rule!
A recent change to the Facebook Terms of Service for Business Pages specified that cover images may not exceed 20% text.
But they left us with no easy way to figure out if we were in trouble!
The 20% Text Cover Compliance Tool!
“Since the newest Revision of the Facebook Page Guidelines from 17.12.2012 Cover-Photos should not contain more than 20% text. This tool should help you to check your Cover-Photo against the new 20% Rule from Facebook.”
Here’s Sony Mobile, making the grade! (just right!)
And here’s the Susan G Komen Foundation (with too much text)
Test Your Cover!
(If the embedded version above is not working, please click this link to open the main site as it definitely works there.)
Pay particular attention to the LOWER portion of your cover, since that, combined with your profile image, are now prominently displayed when someone likes your page:
Notice how the name shifts up, and everything shifts over (due to the image being reduced in size). Pay attention that the text you put on your cover does not land behind this text or if will be a mess.
With the newest version of the news feed increasingly emphasizing images, you’ll want to be sure yours make you look like the rockstar you are!
(While keeping you out of trouble!)
What do you think of Facebook’s new 20% text rule?

PS: The rule also applies to images used in promoted posts but as of yet I’ve not found a good checking tool although it appears if Paavo gets enough donations he will add one!
