Losing This Tool Is Concerning;
Lots of Potential For Better Systems!
Is Facebook gearing up to launch a new messaging system for Facebook Pages, with the other upcoming announcements at the F8 conference, September 22nd?
Facebook has just announced that beginning September 30th, the “Updates” feature, which has been the only messaging system available to Facebook Pages (and considered by most to be very very poor), will be phased out.
I certainly can not say that this feature being removed does not make me a little apprehensive although it will reduce confusion and opens the way for tools that might actually be useful!
Very few Facebook fans even knew where these mysterious “updates” were arriving at (hint: not the inbox) so the damage of removing the feature will be somewhat minimal.
This does stress however, how important it is to paying attention to building an email marketing optin list that is not only law-abiding but that you actually OWN.
Here’s hoping for awesome announcements at the upcoming F8 Conference!
Did you use Facebook Page Updates to notify your fans? Do you regularly check the updates you receive? What impact do you feel this change will have on fan page owners?
Taking the Headaches Out of Internet Marketing!
PS: I’ll be writing more in the upcoming week about the big change coming for Facebook iframes and how those that are hosting either the whole tab or their images on WordPress (or other generic hosting platforms) are going to need to make changes before October 1st. (Don’t worry, those using services such as Fan Page Engine are not affected as long as all the media is uploaded and the youtube videos are from https embeds.)
