What Happens When You
Hit That Report Button?
Yesterday, I saw someone complaining that there was something in their newsfeed, posted by a friend, that offended them and they had reported it.
But what really happens when we hit report?
But what about the person on the other side of the report that has to DO something about your report?
Recently a Facebook staffer let us have a behind the curtain view at what it looks like to be on the receiving end.
Click here to read: “The Real Story Behind Facebook Moderation and Your Petty Reports”
Their story is powerful, graphic, and deep and will make you think very differently of your time on Facebook.
There’s a lot of stuff in it that I won’t quote here because of it’s depth, but I did find this very true:
“Considering all of these things, I’d like to tell you what offends me. It offends me that nearly 80% of the manual reports I have to read are from people who find themselves offended by something.”
This is a very powerful and impactful piece and I urge you to go give it a read.
I wager it will change the way you use the report button…
Be sure to share it with your community.
