Google has rolled out their Panda 4.0 algorithm update … how have your sites fared?
“[T]he impact is ~7.5% of queries that are affected to a degree that a regular user might notice.” This makes it the largest Panda update, for English sites, since Panda v1.0
“With the payday loans refresh impacting extremely spammy queries and Panda targeting low-quality content, some webmasters could potentially get hit with both of these or by just one or the other.”
For a list of the major brands that were really hit by this update, see the Business Insider link below. This, interestingly, included 80% of eBay’s best listings, which were advertising they PAID Google for!
I really liked the quote from Eric Enge, CEO at Stone Temple Consulting, about the simple act of searching for a recipe for French toast:
There are over 31,000 results! There is no need for more than or 5 articles on how to make French toast – it’s really easy. You can’t win by writing a new article on something that has already been covered many times before. So, the question you have to ask yourself today is – what are you going to do that stands out? What are you going to do that’s exceptional? Learning how to answer this question well may take practice.
