When You Feel Like A Deer In The Headlights
I recently invited my subscribers to tell me where they were feeling stuck and ask me anything related to what may be giving them trouble.
I invited them to do this on the condition of full protection that no one would ever find out what they had asked or that they had asked it.
Providing them a safe haven to finally have someone in their corner when things were feeling crazy.
Below is an excerpt of an email I received. Slightly paraphrased.
I heard this same story from so many and I wanted to share with you, what I shared with them.
All these bright shiny objects that come along… that you just KNOW you’re going to need. Then you lose some focus because now you have 3 or 4… or 10 partially completed programs. You manage to gain some knowledge along the way, but not enough that you’ve mastered anything yet… and you STILL have ALL these unfinished projects and programs!
Sound like somewhere you’ve been?
I know I have!
We can be going along just fine, starting to get our heads in the game and get focused and BAM out of the blue comes some shiny distraction that grabs our attention and keeps tugging at the back of our minds.
I’d like to share with you what I shared with them:
“and ALL these bright shiny objects that come along… that you just KNOW you’re going to need“….
The simple answer here is “doesn’t matter, doesn’t matter, doesn’t matter, don’t need em, you wont miss out”.
What does technology do over time? (Improves)
What do costs for the same or similar non-improved product do? (Decrease)
What do most educational products do over time? (Expire)
What do gurus that do limited training launches do in six months? (Re-launch)
What does the price do when a product is relaunched? (Generally stays the same because it is a new launch, new attention, new crowd. Occasionally increases but not consistently enough to gamble on.)
Frankly at the moment the economy is blocking most of the relaunches from even dreaming of a higher price tag. The market just wont allow it. You benefit from that.
Seriously, I want you to keep that in mind, even with my own upcoming course.
You’re money works hardest for you in your hands not theirs.
You need very very few purchasable things at the moment to do the basics to get started being profitable.
- Domain name
- Sales Template either for WP or using the free HTML editor Kompozer to make “old school” html ones
- Something to sell
- Ability to mask/clock that link either through WP or the “old school” free php file FTP’d up to your host for each link.
Everything else is icing on the cake.
Yes there are ways to make things go shinier and faster and easier – but until you’ve got the basics in place and are set up to make income – screw em.
Pick one of those things on the to do list and find some blinders to the rest till it’s done.
Let ALL the shiny stuff pass by – there will be newer, bigger, badder, faster, sexier and often cheaper yet to come when you need it.
Nearly everything I’ve bought thinking I’d need it in six months has been a waste either by being out dated, or replaced, or old information, or a newer cheaper way to do it has arrived.
Buy only what you need for this particular phase and have an agreement with yourself to implement it immediately.
If you can’t use it this week – skip it.
Head down in our work, blinds on, focused till the rest of the world falls away until a task is done.
Focus on what you need right now to knock one thing off that to-do list… just one… and let me know how I can help.
PS: There will be plenty of shiny things in the future and they will be even better shiny things – I promise!
