Protect Your Account
And Your Reputation!
While not a cure-all, this little check-box will drastically reduce the vulnerability of your account to phishing (hacking) schemes and help keep your brand safer!
This week, I’ve been seeing a spike in phished/hacked accounts. Do not click links in DMs (direct messages) as a general rule. Even from someone you KNOW, unless you can tell they were honest to goodness speaking only to you.
The “bad blog about you” DM and the “funny picture of you” DM going around are phishing scams and will grab your credentials and spam on your behalf.
If you’ve been affected (or just want to be cautious), change your twitter password (make it secure) and go into the settings and enable HTTPS, which will help reduce the number of phishing attacks that can “get you”.
Here is how to enable HTTPS on both twitter.com and hootsuite.com. You should also enable it on any other twitter client you use including the one on your mobile phone.
This easy little setting will help keep you a lot safer and involves very little work to set up.
