How to Use Google External:
When you’re researching potential niches it may make sense to start with a free research tool. Google offers one of the finest and most comprehensive free tools.
Let’s explore the basics of using it starting with the link – visit https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
Once there, you’ll see two boxes. One says “word or phrase” the other says “website”.
Simply enter your first niche or micro niche idea into the box labeled “word or phrase.”
Let’s use the example, “Training cats”.
Initially leave the other boxes unchecked but do enter the captcha information. Then click “Search.”
You’ll now see a list of results in four columns. They are:
– Global Monthly Searches
– Local Monthly Searches
Click on the Competition tab at the top of the results and it’ll sort them by least or most competition. You can do the same for the “Monthly Searches” tabs too. You’ll notice that Cat food has the most searches and medium competition.
You’ll also notice that some dogs snuck into the results. Sneaky creatures! You can go back and modify your search to remove keywords from your list simply by clicking the “Only show ideas closely related to my search terms” box.
Click on the magnifying glass next to each keyword and you’ll gain some additional information including interest over time and top searches. You can download the results simply by clicking on the “Download” button.
Once you reduce the keyword results to only those that are closely related to your niche “Training cats” you’ll see there are limited results. 17 in this case. The phrase actually does show some real promise with medium supply and almost 10,000 monthly searches.
You can use this information to generate more ideas and to filter out the niche ideas you already have.
The free Google keyword tool is a free and easy tool to use. It’s also a great way to become familiar with the process. Visit here to learn more about Google and other keyword research tools. Start building your dream online business today.
