Ever Wonder Why The WordPress Community
Is So Darn Passionate?

This brief five minute video will introduce you to WordPress’ founder, Matt Mullenweg…

… explain why the GPL is so important to protect…

… and show you why some of us (myself included) absolutely love attending WordCamp!

Matt Mullenweg founded WordPress to “democratize publishing for the world.” In his interview with “This is Us!”, Matt explains the community-focused business philosophy behind the amazing success of WordPress.

This video just makes me smile and I hope it shows you why I adore the WordPress community…

… Why I stress the need to actively give back to the WordPress community…

… and why its fair to say at this point that I’m quite the fan girl for WordPress!

Have you contributed to the WordPress community yet?

Have you participated and interacted with other open source communities such as Mozilla (Firefox), Linux (Ubuntu, etc…), Open Office and many more?

Have you promoted the community, software and spirit of WordPress to others?

If you haven’t had a chance to get to a WordCamp yet I highly suggest looking into them… they’re regular, fairly frequent, and quite affordable compared to most conferences.

I have had an absolute blast at both Chicago, IL WordCamp 2010 and Savannah, GA WordCamp 2010 and am looking at potentially attending Louisville, KY 2010 WordCamp on Dec 4th and I’d love to be able to attend the one in San Diego, CA WordCamp next summer!

Check out they map, people like YOU host them all over the world!

Leave me your thoughts below on how we can do even more to help the WordPress community and thanks oodles for all the shares, tweets and syndications!

I’ve attended WordCamp in Salt Lake City twice. The camps are just the best… and I’ve learn so much. I found Matt Mullenweg to be so down to earth and personable.
My sister, Sheila Atwood, and I attend “WordPress Geek” meetings in SLC on a regular basis. We are fortunate enough to have Joseph Scott, who works for WordPress Automattic, in our group so… we’re able to stay right on top of things.
I promote WordPress whenever I can… It’s the best!

Hey Kathryn! It’s a pleasure to get to know both you and Shelia! I’m so glad you stopped in (and connected on twitter!)

Wow sounds like you’ve got yourself a little WordPress hub there, how cool is that?! I think I’ve got a little geek envy LOL! That’s one powerful way to stay connected!

Be sure to stay in touch and give me a shout out if you need anything!

Usi, what country are you from? WordCamps have spread pretty international at this point and simply takes a group of dedicated individuals to run one. It sounds like you need to work with some others in your country to get one hosted!

Kimberly,
What a super nice guy. I can definitely see why you love WordPress so much. Excited to hear that there’s going to be a camp here in San Diego next year. I have a guest room that’s waiting for you, k?

With the FB course launch for around Jan 1, and then relaunching the WP/SM course, I should be doing alright to finance that trip and am definitely optimistic about the possibility of making it out to San Diego to see you! I knew you’d spot the San Diego link! I may not be traveling solo by that point ;) but if I need to I’ll find a hotel, I’m sure you’ve got some of those in the area. It should be a great conference and I hope a lot of the community can attend with it being located in the hub of so many social media bloggers. Can’t wait to see you girlfriend <3

Cherie I honestly do not know. The person to contact that would know is Jane who you might be able to reach through the central office or at @janeforshort I did notice however that their site has a new header and such up since last time I was there so it appears they are working on it. Usually WordCamp sites do not “come together” until about 60 days before the event so I think they’re close to being on track even though that seems late I know. http://2011.sandiego.wordcamp.org/
