3 Key Ways to Give Your
a Professional Shine
One thing is true about first impressions, they can last a lifetime. That’s one of the reason’s it is important to put forth an information product you’re proud of.
Putting a professional shine on your ebook or report isn’t complicated and it doesn’t require hiring a professional. These three easy steps will ensure you’re publishing and selling a book that establishes your credibility and generates positive word of mouth marketing – to sell more books of course.
Before you write, create a template for your book. This will include the formatting you’re going to use. You’ll set your margins, tabs, font, spacing and justification in advance.
Yes, you can change them later but if you have your template set up beforehand, it’s much easier to be consistent and to present a professional look.
You may also have one template for your pdf format and another for your e-Reader format that you later copy the contents into.
Knowing the template layout as you write helps you get a professional appearance in the end result.
#2 And more formatting…
In addition to setting your margins, tabs, font size and style, and your spacing, you also want to add a few features like:
Page numbers – generally in the footer but you can choose to place them in your header as well.
Your Copyright – again, generally placed in the footer.
Your URL/Contact information – placed in the footer on every single page. Make the URL a link for extra motivation to click-through to your website.
A header. In the header you can put the book title and/or the chapter title.
#3 Editing and proofreading.
Spend time giving your information product a thorough once over. In addition to looking for spelling and grammar mistakes, you want to make sure your sentences are clear and easy to understand.
If possible, have a second pair of eyes look over your report. Ask a friend or family member or a trusted business associate. You may also hire a proofreader.
Everyone makes spelling and grammar mistakes but if you can reduce or eliminate them it’ll make your product look all the more professional.
Graphics, a table of contents, an about the author page and your legal page are also an important way to present a complete and professional package but if you don’t have these first three keys covered, it doesn’t matter how visually interesting you make your product.
Now you might think all of this would take a long time to create. However, you can create a highly polished and extremely profitable information product in a week or less.
Creating a professional looking product is keys to building an ebook empire and will help set you apart from other run-of-the-mill infoproducts available.
