Who Are Your Fans
Fans Of On Facebook?
The recent changes to Facebook’s fan pages (aka business pages) has produced an interesting, if “accidental” way of observing some broad-scale fan demographics.
Now that business entities (pages) can be fans of other businesses, Facebook felt the need to recommend pages that perhaps our page should like.
This produces an image box in the right sidebar when we are using Facebook as our page.
On first glance, this box seems pretty unremarkable, if not downright annoying.
Yet I found myself continuing to come back to it and really think about what I could learn from what I was seeing.
In this screenshot alone, you can see that of my 1500 fans, 321 like Katie Freiling… which is over 1/3 of my fan base!
That’s important information to know about my audience!
I also see several pages of individuals/bloggers that might make potential good JV partners. We share some common fan base, yet it is not 100% and we are not competition meaning our leverage together would be unique and fans already find our content in line with each other.
The third thing I see here is that my fans are already fans of – and purchasing – from a company that produces a high dollar product in my niche. Important info!
You can make this box of 4 refresh by refreshing the page over and over. The numbers will change slightly each refresh but exact numbers are not as important as understanding which individuals play a key roll in the lives of our community.
Just for fun here is some of the top names that come up for my business page.
# of my fans that like this particular page
435 Anthony Robbins
347 Robert Kiyosaki
272 Wayne W. Dyer
321 Katie Freiling
247 Jack Canfield
243 Eric Goldstein
235 Gary Vaynerchuk
231 Amanda Marie
200 Diane Hochman
161 John C. Maxwell
174 The Oprah Winfrey Show
154 Eckhart Tolle
149 Mark Zuckerberg
143 Donald J. Trump
Pretty cool isn’t it? I can definitely see distinctive genre and influencer trends.
Some, non-social media personalities I see are scoring artificially low most likely because their fans have not considered that they actually HAVE a page!
(I know that more than 191 of my fans like youtube!)
