Let’s Ask Google!
There are a lot of SEO reports that suggest that url shorteners may be hurting your SEO…
Is this true? What can we do about it?
Matt Cutts, Google’s SEO expert weighs in with the facts….
The fear that remains around url shorteners is, mostly due to the fact that when they first started appearing on the scenes, most did not use 301 redirects and so were essentially stealing linkjuice.
This created a scenario that was bad for SEO but fortunately the pressures of SEO have driven of the companies to shift to using 301s for your best interest.
However, as Matt pointed out there is still a lot to be said about whether the site the links are appearing on are granting do-follow status to that link, which many do not.
There ya have it, words from the SEO Guru himself!
Hope you enjoyed this SEO tip and I’d love if you’d tell me how you’re using link shorteners, which ones are your favorites and if your using external services or plugin based shorteners (such as wp.me and prettylink) on your blogs. Lets compare notes!
Thanks in advance for your comment and shares!
