In The FB Group
Recently, I launched a new Facebook group! If you’re not already a member, be sure you come join us!
One of the questions I’ve been getting a lot of, is how I get a new member’s profile/face/name to show up in the group news feed. (See image)
If you have a group, you may have noticed that Facebook no longer auto-publishes the “you added x member” data to the group wall (group news feed).
In case you’ve been wondering how to make that happen again, I’m going to show you where to find this little gem.
XYZ members (123 new)
Click on the link that is attached to the “new” and you will open a popup (shown in the screenshot above) that shows you each NEW member’s name, and a place to write a welcome message. The box says, “Write a comment to welcome them.
From here simply write a message for each member – individually. (There is no bulk option.)
Even non-admins can see and access this box and welcome new members to the community – so encourage others to take advantage of it!
One other tip – since the recent change – you can’t do tagging in there. So if you need the tag… write what you want to say, the refresh the group page so you can see the entry, and then edit the entry to add your tag. (Annoying I know!)
I may choose not to add all of the tags immediately. However, if I return 24 hrs later, and someone still has not replied and acknowledged seeing the post, I will usually add the tag to trigger a notification. The tags increase response rate. (And a total lack of response can alert me to a potential spam account.)
