Screen Sharing Says
I Need Premium?!?!
Last week I was meeting with a client, on Skype to work on their social media site together…
We were chatting away on Skype and I clicked the button to enable screen-sharing, so that I could let her see my screen, and Skype had another idea…
This threw me off because screen-share on Skype had always been one of it’s most useful features for me… and had always been free for a single viewer!
The popup confused me and I closed it and improvised… but it left me wondering… wtf?
I must admit for a while that I was really grumbling about Skype’s sale to Microsoft… but that didn’t get me an answer… so off I went to Google!
It turns out that this popup is simply CONFUSING rather than as problematic as it sounds.
Since version 5.7 or 5.8, there has been an added ability to do screen-share PLUS share your webcam. This new double-video-stream is actually what is premium.
Screen sharing to one-on-one calls remains free as long as you are not simultaneously also running a webcam video feed. Switching off your webcam feed and trying it again solves the issue without paying for Premium!
Okay – now why couldn’t that popup have simply said that?
