Social Media Image
Cropping & Scaling
Cropping and scaling your fancy graphics to the optimize size for each social platform can be a pain in the butt!
Even with this handy chart that lists all the necessary sizes for various social sites, the fiddly work can still be enough to leave you cross eyed!
Once you’ve made your graphics, just drop them into this tool to get them quickly scaled to the appropriate dimensions for the site you want to post them on.
Introducing: Autre Planéte Social Media Image Maker
Simply visit the site… by clicking here.
Then in the left sidebar, select the social media site you wish to optimize a graphic for. There are LOTS of options which is nice since they all want different sizes!
If, for example you click on Facebook, you will then be shown the SEVEN images used on Facebook.
Selecting the image you want to make (for this example, a news feed item), and you will be prompted to drag and drop your file into the browser. You will also be told what the minimum dimension is that you need to START with to get the final size you need.
The next screen gives you cropping handles to let you crop the image to the target size. (I did find it a little frustrating that there was not an option to make the image smaller than the specified and fill in the difference with a colored background.)
To get the most out of this, you’re going to want to combine this with your knowledge of the sizes in the first place, and craft your image with these sizes in mind.
Grab Ana’s blog post about creating images that are powerful and engaging. While making them yourself is best, you can also check out these sources of free images. (Keep an eye on the license, free does not mean you can use them without attribution or for commercial purposes in all cases.)
Then simply use the tool to re-crop the image for multiple platforms!
