Easily Splice A Video!
Sometimes, a whole video is just too much!
Now you can quickly and easily display a portion or segment of a youtube video without messing with the code!
Recently I needed to display a video… but only the 0:15 through 0:49 clip… and the copyright issues of downloading, clipping and re-uploading someone’s video did NOT thrill me!
While you can do this same feature by manually editing the “old style” embed code (sorry, feature not available at all for iframe embed codes), the code was enough to make me look for another alternative!
Fortunately I found a neat free tool called SPLICD!
How to Use Splicd To Embed A Video Segment
- Visit http://splicd.com
- Paste in the url of the Youtube video you wish to splice
For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sxs-AZlCJyA Make sure there is no additional trailing code stuff on the URL for best results.
- Fill in the box for the time (0:00) you would like to start and finish at.
Be aware that it plays through the second it finishes at, so 0:49 stops right as 0:50 starts.
- Click Continue
- Near the bottom of the next page is your altered embed code. Pre-configured for you.
- Use this as you would any other embed code.
I noticed that WordPress did not like to preview this embed code, but it worked regardless.
You may or may not chose to leave the link to the splicd tool that it adds to the code.

That’s it! Quick and easy and no fiddling with ugly code!
Note: I’ve noticed that sometimes the stop/end point does not work. This appears to be a youtube issue and seems to happen with hand edited code as well. The start point works real well though and very consistently.
