Get Your Mobile Capture
Playing With Your
Desktop Editing Software
If, like me, you’re in digital marketing, you’re likely already making great use of the amazing lineup of products from TechSmith such as Camtasia (video editing) and SnagIt (screen capture and annotation editing).
However, you probably are also a savvy person who shoots a lot of your pictures, screengrabs, and video on your smartphone.
We all know how annoying it can be to have to plug the USB cable in or fiddle with third party software to get “just a quick picture” from our phones back onto our computers.
TechSmith Fuse solves this problem while instantly putting the image into the editing software ready for me to make it production ready!
Introducing TechSmith Fuse
Fuse is a brand new FREE smartphone app, available for Android, Win and iOS, that lets you quickly and easily send your image over the local WiFi from your mobile phone to the desktop/laptop that is running your editing software.
I admit that when I first saw this app come out a few weeks ago I didn’t immediately grasp just how darn useful it would be to me, but now I find myself using it all the time!
Install Fuse and browse through your phone for an image or video. Alternatively, you can open images/video from your Gallery/Photo Album and then use “Send To…” Fuse to open the app.
Once you have updated your editing software, be it SnagIt, Camtasia, or TechSmith Relay, in the “File” menu you will find an option to “Connect Mobile Device…”
This lets you scan a QR code from your Fuse app to easily get the two talking.
Once the phone recognizes the QR code, the image or video is instantly sent to the software, across your local WiFi.
Not a bunch of prompts, not a bunch of delays, just BOOM! Your image is on your computer. (Admittedly, big video may take some time to come across the airwaves.)
I’m frequently capturing screenshots from my mobile phone and this is a perfect way to make them quickly editable.
However, I also find it useful for moving high quality photos from my phone to my PC simply for saving and uploading from the desktop. Whether I need to edit or not, the Fuse app is incredibly handy for making my PC and my phone feel more like a unified device.
The app is new and there are some quirks I am sure that the TechSmith team will be working on. (Namely, if I leave my local WiFi, because of changing networks, when I return to my WiFi, it has forgotten my apps it was connected too… so I have to scan QR codes again. This is a minor but real annoyance since I have SnagIt and Camtasia on 2 computers!)
Overall though, it does exactly what it says on the tin and I find myself using it more and more daily.

Simple Tech Tips For Marketing
PS: If you’re not seeing the “Connect Mobile Device…” option in your SnagIt or Camtasia or Relay, then it’s likely that you are not running the most recent version of the software and that you simply need to update.
You’ll find this available in Camtasia 8.4 which is a free upgrade for Camtasia 8 users. (You’ll need a premium upgrade if you’re using Camtasia 7.0) You’ll find this available in SnagIt 12.1 which is a free upgrade for SnagIt 11.0 users.
