(AKA How To Get A Thousand Blog Comments In Under 6 Months!)
Sometimes it takes real numbers to show us the power of a particular method.
… even when the method has a track record of solid performance.
Sometimes it takes measurable results to convince us that its more than just hype.
… even when we’re told to have faith.
For me, I’d rather pass on the hype and show you my results.
In mid-November 2009, as nothing more than an excuse to play with some new social media technology shiny toys… I signed up for the Tribe Master Intensive (Now Empowered Tribe Blogging 101).
I didn’t come in with a business plan, any intent of growing a business, any interest in self branding, or any pre-established business leverage. In fact, a lot of what I’d done in networking up to that time was so wrong that you could say I had anti-leverage in some areas!
Enjoying a chance to play with the software known as wordpress, and support the community in getting their own blogs up, I made my first post on this blog December 2nd… and got my first comment December 4th (Thank you Melissa Wright!)… all behind closed doors strictly within the Tribe community.
On January 1st 2010, I officially launched the blog to the world, including all my social networks etc. Pretty much all of my metrics track from there as I show you the power of social media metrics and how important it is to document the journey. Even at this point, I still did not have a business model, a plan, or much of a commitment besides to stay blogging.
On April 1sth 2010, at my 90 day goal post, I was just beginning to get my bearing on where this was all going and just what my niche REALLY was (and was not!) and I repositioned (and slightly re-branded) the blog. Even at this point, I was still struggling with clarity but I was intent to not give up and to make it happen and I knew that if I just kept on keeping on in the flow it would all come together.
Today, 5/29/10 just a fraction under 6 months since that very first all-important comment… I logged my 1,000th comment.
In case you’re curious… the honor of that 1,000th comment goes to the beautiful heart Kellie Hosaka!
In the 26 weeks since I made that first post, I have averaged just under 3 posts per week, and that means that if you take those 70 posts (this is #71), divide them into 1,000 (comments per post) and then cut it in half (assuming I replied to all of them, which I have tried to do but not always accomplished), then you have an average of 7 unique comments per post!
If you’re really new to blogging that may not sound like much, but if you’ve been established a while you understand just how solid that is. Indeed there is room for more growth but its wildly amazing for someone that did not even start this journey intent to self-brand and build a business!
THAT! That right there! Those kind of results… are the power of the Golden Sisters in Social Media Marketing… Self-Branding + Tribe Syndication Alliances.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a ton of other factors that go into those results such as consistency (note the average), solid education (check out PBY that Jodie and I teach), properly narrowing my niche, avoiding spamming with a passion, remembering to honor the four E’s of good blogging (educate, entertain, enlighten, enrich), being DoFollow/KeywordLuv/Commentluv fully enabled, building quality relationships, staying reader-focused… etc…
My results are also characterized by real life demands, semi severe health challenges, relationship challenges (including being in the early stages currently of a (amicable) divorce) and more. While I may not have the same challenges as you, I have worked my tail off to be sure that my challenges have not been allowed to become an excuse to explain away quality performance. Never, EVER, think that just because you have some challenge, that you can not have results if you are willing to make the sacrifices and do the work… if you want it bad enough it will be yours!
However, at the end of the day, it is the power of correct branding combined with syndication alliances… both in mastermind format and in large community format.. that have made these numbers a reality.
Even with proper positioning, and proper mindset, if I had not had the incredibly huge leverage known as a tribe syndication community behind me, driving me, and helping me build that traffic and exposure… I would still be at a crawl standstill. If you are struggling to get traffic for your blog, be sure you tune into some of the quality classes available, as well as the several FREE tribe communities available, to teach you how to make the most of what you are doing.
At the end of the day, it is you… my dear friends, readers, community, and fierce supporters…you who are my tribe, who are my people… that have stood with me, joined arm in arm, supported me through some incredibly rough times (and still do!)… and have brought these results into being. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
Yours In Success,
