Can’t Afford To Ignore Google+

The most common question I get about Google+ for social networkers is WHY! … Why Google+? … Why anything other than Facebook?… Why leave the comfort of a place we know so well?

Building a network on Google+ is both powerful and relatively easy… but its important to know a couple key tips or you may not agree!

Here is a snippet from the monthly WordPress & Social Marketing Q&A webinar I run monthly where I explain how I approach the two platforms, the differences between my pages and profiles, and how I easily build a network on Google+ that is more challenging to build on Facebook in many cases.

As I mentioned, Facebook is a great place designed for connecting with people you already know. Its entire structure is around that format and you can be punished for doing otherwise. The culture on Google+ is very different and makes it easy to both find and get to know people that are brand new to who you are and what you do.

Take advantage of the power of internal searching to expand the people you can get to know.

And one other super-important tip… be sure that YOUR keywords, interests etc are in your About tab of your profile to make YOU more findable!

Are you using Google+? How would you compare the two sites? Share your thoughts below!

Hope you enjoyed this tip!

It was interesting to hear your take on the differences and similarities of Facebook and Google+. I wasn’t aware of the difference in focus on setting up profile vs. page and it will save me some learning curve.

Why social networkers can’t afford to ignore Google plus? For one main reason, it is owned by Google! Many believe that Google will give priority to Google plus compared to Facebook no matter how many users that FB have as of this moment. Plus the fact that most G+ users are highly satisfied with its performance so I’m not in doubt if one day, they would be successful also in networking arena.

I have to check my profile to make sure I filled it out all. Sometimes I never think about it and then you go and mention keywords…lol. Well, at least I got my reminder. :D

I really am enjoying some of the stuff coming through on G+ and even thought I am not getting read hard core, at least I am trying to wade in and keep connecting with people I do know while some new faces pop up and talk with me.

Excellent comparison of these two networks! It became much clearer for me! More over I’m grateful to you for this video, cause I haven’t got acquainted close with Google+ page yet. By the way, I didn’t know that a person who I’d like to add to my circles, shouldn’t approve it. It was completely new for me

I agree Kim with your insight of why a business entrepreneur will want to be on Google+ and basically it is the shear visibility. I know it feels overwhelming for people that are comfortable with Facebook, but I found it didn’t take much to get your profile up, as you pretty much should have a proper profile on your Facebook page. So transfering that information is pretty easy with a copy and paste :)

Thank you for sharing this information and I look forward to more great tips on this topic.

The powerful side of G+ is definitely the circles. You can, for example, set up a circle of for your customers or people in your business field. This adds a cool layer of having people exactly in the circles you want.
