Microblogging is a broadcast medium in the form of blogging. A microblog differs from a traditional blog in that its content is typically smaller in both actual and aggregate file size. Microblogs “allow users to exchange small elements of content such as short sentences, individual images, or video links” (Wikipedia)
A tumblelog is a quick and dirty stream of consciousness, a bit like a remaindered links style linklog but with more than just links. They remind me of an older style of blogging, back when people did sites by hand… with minimal commentary, little cross-blog chatter, the barest whiff of a finished published work, almost pure editing…really just a way to quickly publish the “stuff” that you run across every day on the web (Wikipedia)

So a tumbleblog is a microblog in some ways similar to Facebook with stuff shared and a brief or limited commentary!
The best known Tumblog based site today is Tumblr but the concept can be applied anywhere including here in WordPress.
And that, m’friend, is what I will be supplementing this blog with.
Going forward, between my usual tutorials and the link, you will occasionally also see shorter snippets and shares of things that I have found interesting on the web…
Hope you enjoy!
Kimberly

Hi Kim,
This was sure news to me! I did hear about microblogging, but Tumblog sure is something new.
Thanks for putting up great informative posts on the blog, as they sure teach us a great deal and help us remain updated with things.
BTW- (Wishing you a great Halloween
Hey Harleena, thanks for the kind Halloween shoutout! For me, I’ve come to realize that often times I write really cool stuff on G+, FB etc that has zero leverage for me because it quickly gets buried. This is going to let me bring some (but not most) of those items back to the blog as entries that will then be searchable here. I’m a real big fan of owning my content and being able to have it for leverage. I also think that while my monster posts have their place, and my training videos have their place, that it’s really not always required to write 500 words. I think that many readers are “spoiled” on Facebook’s former 420 characters and would be happy with a short entry. Will they still leave comments though is the big question. Will it help or hurt engagement? Only one way to find out!
Kim
This is also true for me, FB and G+ seem to go waaay too soon so your blog seems to give you much more leverage.
Great to see Kim. Are you going to be using the new wordpress post types?
Patrick, I’m still debating about the custom post types. They kinda have their own quirks and I am still learning them. However, I’ve been experimenting with them being nicely integrated into the “Twenty Eleven” theme and I may add that functionality (integration) to my Thesis theme and work from there. However, for some of them I tend to just really like the flexibility of posting as I usually do including a title. I found that items without a title looked really odd on my home page yet I didn’t really know where to put them if I didn’t let them display there. Know what I mean? Sometimes there is a problem with too much flexibility in a way! If you have any recommendations I’d love to hear them!
Kim
Sorry – no good recommendation
I don’t use them myself. My new thing is to do only video blogs, and then pay $5 to have it transcribed into text.
Sounds good on two levels: Those of us (myself included) who dont have time to write long, indepth blog posts on a daily basis might be able to use this to fill the void,….to still put out good content with with less time invested. Also, changing the length of your posts is supposed to be a good thing. I’m looking forward to these new ‘snippets’ of info coming from you, Kim
hmmm, very interesting, I think I have too much on my plate and need to focus on what is going to work quickly for me. Thanks for your help, Kim.
Whew, yet another term to learn! Ok, so this is just quick, small bits of information being spewed out from wherever, right? I assume that on a blog they may look like multiple posts, only short and quick and very to the point. Ok, got it!
Awesome Kim! I heard of this and I think it is a great idea to do. With all the work load and lessons you are giving us there is not enough time to kick out pillar posts.
Question: How many hours do you have in your day? It always seems like you are on top of every learning curve and jump on one place or another to teach us. This is a great idea!

Kimberly,
This is such a great blog post for me. I often come across stuff that I want to share about a really useful plugin, theme, social media marketing tip that would really help my blog followers, but I Do NOT share the information, because I just don’t have the motivation to turn that information into a full blown blog post with all the research and commentary, and links, etc.
This post of yours is giving me even more confidence in the idea of just sharing short snippets of information and links to other blog posts and information, that I think my readers and followers and subcribers would enjoy!
Take Care,
Jupiter Jim
This information was certainly new for me!I’ve heard not so much about microblogging, but not about tumblelog. It is the first time I’m reading about it
Hey Kim! I am glad I ran across this. I have not heard of Tumblog but i like the concept from what you described here. I am looking forward to seeing how you incorporate this into your Wordpress blog.
I’m seeing lots of people who are using tumblog to update their daily activities. Each item is categorized, for example if you have videos, quotes, etc. Just like any other platform, you can use tumblog in that way which could make users feel more comfortable with the posting process.
I have not heard of tumbleblog either, so I’m glad I read this. It does make sense because many times us bloggers would like to share a thought or idea, but just don’t feel like writing a big post. Thanks for the info!

Hey Kim, I think this is definitely the future of blogging. Short, conise and direct posts that deliver the exact info you’re looking for without all the fluff. Just not enough time today to sift through everything so I believe people will continue to come back to places where they know they can find the info they are looking for quickly. Thanks!
