Is WiFi Becoming
The Modern Addiction?
It seems that every generation has it’s socially acceptable addictions and new ones always crop up to replace the ones that are no longer passé.
Today, the modern addiction is rapidly becoming one of internet connectivity “aka WiFi access”.
Though cigarettes are beginning to fall out of fashion, that does not mean that we’ve not replaced one time wasting health damaging drug with another. In fact, internet addiction is now more common in the United States than alcoholism!
The internet certainly isn’t all bad – in fact it plays a vital role in society and brings a lot of good to the world… but that’s also what makes it into it’s very own gateway to trouble!
Indeed, the statistic that 75% of people would be grumpier during a week without WiFi than a week without coffee (caffeine) certainly includes me!
So just how prevalent is this drug-craving for internet access?

In a quote from VentureBeat, “We may judge people who we see smoking a cigarette or feel pity for someone who threw thousands of dollars away on online poker, or stayed awake for 48 hours straight playing a game. But next time you refresh Facebook five times in an hour or keep your phone out on a restaurant table, remember that, as with other addictions, you think you have control. Until you don’t.”
Have you even found yourself craving the internet when it wasn’t available? (I sure have!)
What things do you do to ensure that the internet is something you stay in control of rather than it controlling you?
