Tips for Success
With Content Marketing
The most popular radio station in all of marketing land is W-I-I.FM!
Because, everyone wants to know the answer to that question…
“What’s in it for me?”
WII.FM plays a role in almost every aspect of your marketing… from your brand positioning, to your about page, to your optin form to your sales copy!
For example, many people make the mistake of assuming that their about page is supposed to be “about them”.
Guess What? No one gives a flying f***!
Or rather… they don’t give it until they understand what’s in it for them and how the blog/site they are on can benefit them.
The minute they understand what this content – and you – can do for them… then they care!
Make your about page answer the WII.FM question and you’re going to convert readers into subscribers.
If you want to use a longer-style about page, make the first paragraph do that, and then tell them more about the blog, and about you, while still focusing on how each bit your telling them serves them. (In other words, don’t ramble on about that car accident in ’93 if it wasn’t a pivotal life point that you MUST share a lesson from with them.)
I personally have moved to a short-style about page, with a focus on converting readers to subscribers.
I then use a much more personal bio as part of my email drip-feed. (However, there would be some benefits to having it available to blog readers, in a different way, such as a post, so that little tidbit is not necessarily gospel. It is, however, what’s working for me at the moment.)
Remember, that while you want your readers to care about you, they don’t until you’ve earned it… by telling them what’s in it for them… and by being congruent to that message by delivering strong proof, in the content you write on your blog.
