KeywordLuv
Keyword Luv is a neat little WordPress plugin you can add to reward your commenters.
This plugin rewards commenters by improving the quality of link they receive attached to their name. Currently your name is a clean or unspecified link to your particular blog, and is nofollow, so you get no SEO credit. (Different than commentluv) With this, you will be able to select some keywords (in my blogs case 2 keywords or short phrases) that you would like to attach to that name link as anchors. Google loves this sort of stuff.
In fact, Google loving this sort of stuff is why many established blogs can not keep it turned on… spam bots find your blog in a QUICK hurry. However, for the newer blog, its a GREAT way to give link love and the pros often outweigh the spammy cons!
How to use Keywordluv!
(Example taken from the plugin homepage)
If you enter “Steve@the best bank” in the Name field (without quotes), their comment will have:
Steve from the best bank Says:
rather than:
Steve@the best bank Says:
If they don’t enter the @ symbol, the anchor text will simply display as normal.
(PS: If you don’t leave your name, I send your comment to the trashcan! I also delete comments that do not add value, such as “Great post, hope to see more.” etc)
Installing & Configuring KeywordLuv and DoFollow:
1. Download KeywordLuv. (This one is not in the search currently)
2. Upload & Install KeywordLuv. Settings are fine by default for most themes, although I edited the information box.
3. For KeywordLuv to work, you have to enable DoFollow on your blog (wordpress has it set to NO by default). Here’s the link, but you can find it in search. Author is Denis de Bernardy. No configuration needed.
Spam Management
4. Want to solve the spam issue? The block-spam-by-math plugin (which I use with Akismet and Bad Behavior) does a WONDERFUL job. I suggest getting my updated copy here as the current version available had a bug.
Change Your Mind?
At any point in the future, if you decide to disable commentluv and keywordluv due to spam volume, then the plugin “Comment Warning” is highly recommended. I hope to keep KeywordLuv enabled as long as possible for you guys and gals. I have my doubts I will be able to keep it forever, but I want to try.
Does it affect Top Commenter?
Keywordluv stores the keywords separate from the commenter name. I am fairly certain this will not disrupt the Top Commenter plugin. However, I won’t know for sure for a few days. I will edit this post as soon if I find out there is an issue. When I commented with it here, I noted that it found the correct number of comments, so its separate field usage should mean it will play nice. You guys and gals should definitely rush out and post a bunch of comments to find out! LOL
Summary
I hope you find this addition one more reason to comment! This essentially means that, coupled with commentluv, you now get TWO dofollow valuable links as a bonus for leaving a high-value reply. (You also get another if you make my top commenter list!) I’m doing my best to give you absolute every bit of sexy link juice I can squeeze out of this blog without dying from the spammers! I appreciate your support in sharing my blog links, tweeting me, and leaving comments! You guys and gals are the absolute best! Leave a comment and test out the new toy! Let me know your thoughts, feedback and success or struggles with my new toy!

Hey Kimberley, I’ve used this plugin for awhile now and I think it’s a great way to reward readers. Like you I delete or spam comments that I deem as taking advantaged of my good nature. I’ve also stipulated that I would only accept 2 keywords as some people liked to stick in far more than I liked. I would either delete the comment or remove some of the keyword.

Thanks Sire! I actually had avoided it, due to all the spam warnings until I saw you managing to use it successfully on your blog. I figure you’re no-nonsense enough that if it was terrible you wouldn’t tolerate it!

Kimberly, it’s like you said, you just have to manage it’s usage, like a lot of other tasks that’s involved when taking up blogging.

Hey Kimberly,
What a cool plugin, even those with an untechnical mind will be ale to follow this. Anything that google loves has to rock.!

Ya know… I thought that, and almost no one took advantage of it while replying here. Now I know that’s because a lot of you have your credentials typed in already here and you would have to retype your name… but it makes me wonder if I wasn’t clear enough.
I wonder if some people didn’t use it because they thought that the name field changes would mess up commentluv. Commentluv only looks at your email and domain, changing your name field it doesn’t care about.
Thanks hun!
Kimberly – Great post – you’ll laugh – I’ve been using this plugin for months because someone I trust recommended it – now I understand why! Thanks for your clear, concise explanation – I’ll be back to read more of YOUR blog – love anything that demystifies the technology and makes work easier….thanks a million!

How fun that you’ve been running it without knowing exactly why! However, I’m now puzzled. I guess my instructions are not clear enough because you still only entered your name in the name field, instead of:

I think I’m going to have to go back and clarify the instructions! LOL

Looks sweet, but could be too complicated for some people. Also please revise your tab index for the comments form. It seems that the Facebook profile URL input box is after the comment textarea rather than before, weird navigation if you’re not using your mouse. #ux #ui
Update: Oh my god, it says my comment looks too spammy.. Wtf?
Update 2: Again.. Jeez this is *not* user friendly!

Konstantin, thanks for your feedback.
The tab index issue is STRICTLY my own fault, and not plugin related. I’ve been in the middle of hand-coding some new fields. I’m sorry you found it frustrating but your feedback is very helpful. The tab index is not related to KeywordLuv or Lucias Linky Love.
Comment looks Spammy. That makes me think that you somehow triggered the WP-SpamFree plugin. This again is not related to KL or LLL. I’m curious what you had posted that caused the spam guard to fire off. I’m not sure if its your hashtags or something you have since removed to get around it. I would love to know what you removed so maybe I could adjust those settings.
Sorry you found it frustrating, but thanks for letting me know!

And I suddenly discovered the problem you had with WP-SpamFree. I’ll definitely look into that today. I hit the same warnings and had to remove the hashtags and then actually submit it a second or third time. Something is odd there. Thanks for the headsup!

This is a great plugin but I find that some blogs have comment warnings telling you to only enter your name in the the name field yet have keywordluv enabled. Does this mean that you are not allowed to add yourname@keyword in the name field? If I put yourname@keyword will they delete my comment. If so why have keywordluv enabled?
Alana, It’s really hard to say why they have conflicting info. Although I do remember that by default keywordluv added something that I didnt care for and re-wrote. For example I wrote mine to say no more than 2 keywords and you must include your name. I insist on a name because keywordluv allows it easily and its very annoying to reply to Mr. “Cheap PC’s”. LOL As to those who’s blogs have a conflict, it might be interesting if you asked that question as a PS: on your reply to them. I just doublechecked that mine says to use Name@keywords, and I notice that you did not take advantage of that. I hope you weren’t meaning I have a bug I need to track down. Thanks for stopping in and commenting!
Kimberly
Don’t worry, I’m sure you’re bug free! lol So do you propose adding a p.s at the end of my comments then? I know you’d be able to get a good idea by looking at how others have left their comments, however sometimes there wouldnt be any comments to start off with. The last thing I would want to be is a spammer!
Hey Kim
This is a great tool. I just go Keywordluv up onto my site as well as turing my blog into a DoFollow. I think these are great tools and as long as spam doesn’t get all that high, I would like to keep it on. But I am very uncertian like you as to whether this will happen or not.
Thanks for the post.

Steven I stopped by your blog because I wanted to verify your dofollow status before adding you to the list of community dofollow/keywordluv/commentluv blogs. I was saddened to see you are forcing registration in order to comment. Is there some reason you’ve chosen to do that?

Keyword luv is a great way to generate more traffic to your blog. People looking for links are going to flood in, and you’ll get traffic and more visitors which means your ad revenue will sky rocket!
keywordluv is great it helps us get the backlinks that we need in order for us to get traffic to our site. thanks for the luv

This plugin is pretty neat. Looks like I’m going to have to change my gravatar email account to match my website email account.

Hi Kim! I love using keywordluv for promoting websites. The reason is that it offers a wide variety of incoming links rather than just a few. Thanks to the human factor this is way better for your site’s ranking prospects in the long-run. Thanks!
I’m new at using keywordluv and getting backlinks by commenting on Blogs.
Does anyone khow these backlinks compare to backlinks from articles submitted to a article directories or social bookmarking.

These are fantastic tools for getting more comments and attracting readers into the conversation. I’m not a big techie, which is part of the reason I really dig WordPress tools since you don’t have to be a genius to figure them out. By the way, I love the photo at the very top of your page. Where was that taken?

This plugin rocks! I love be able to use both my name as well as some keywords. Much Luv for Keyword Luv!
Hey Kim. Nice post. I know that spammers can be a headache. Do you use the askimet plugin to help with this? I am not very technical, but I like the idea of having an incentive to leave a comment. I think you can generate a lot of content for your blog without having to write it all yourself. I like to participate and have found some very useful comments and posts on do follow blogs. I would never have found them if it were a no follow blog. I think it is a win-win situation. Just dealing with the spammers is the tough part. Thank Kim. I will bookmark and be glad to stop back.

A DoFollow site is one that allows the search engines to follow a link from their site to yours.
I had got much benefit from this do follow blogs but in the list there some more blogs which are nofollow so please kindly do it filter.
Great information on Keyword luv! I have recently installed in on some of my sites and I get so much more interactivity! I also use comment luv have great success with both. I do get quite a bit of spam I use Akismet but I will check out block spam by math plugin
Hi Kim, you had a pretty neat site indeed. Upon searching for keywordluv enabled blog, I stumbled upon this entry, all I can say right now is that the population of keywordluv enabled blogs are really rising, and this is due to its being user or commentor friendly.
I have noticed a lot of spam coming in my blog as well because of the keywordluv tool.. but at least 70% of the time, the comments that arrive are not that spammy compared to the rest of the 30%. Just be sure to have a spam blocker at hand, though.
Using keywordluv and commentluv is good thing but it gives lot of headache in maintaining the links which are spam. So we need to use spam blocker.
I use keywordluv on all of my blogs, I suggest it as well!
I love the idea of attracting more people to my blogs, but I have to deal with enough spam already. I currently use akismet spam block, I think. What do you use, and does it work? You say the pros outweigh the cons…
Thanks

I liked the post, it has very helpful tips and plugins. I installed KeywordLuv too. Thanks for helping!
John
i love keyword luv, i plan to use it w/ comment luv on my site. I think i will keep it as long as i can due to spammers. but i love it!
Kelly
Installing Keywordluv on your blog can be a great decision. Essentially you are letting other bloggers and webmasters know that you ware willing to give them a link with their preferred anchor text, providing they leave you a good comment .
I see it as, if you are going to allow comments you may as well allow them a dofollow link, providing you keep a careful eye out for suspicious websites. And if you are going to give them a link, you may as well let bloggers choose their keywords. In the end it will result in more free content that helps you rank higher, as well as more readers.
after read your article. i interesting to use keywordluv. i will use it.
Regarding spam management, I’d like to suggest G.A.S.P. rather than math and akismet. GASP just creates a check box through java script and is very effective to stop automated bots.
KeywordLuv does makes it different for top commenter plugin. I have found in many blogs that I am listed in two or three instances – one for @seommotips and other for @bivori and so on. I guess it takes the whole string including @keyword as a user.

I love the keywordluv plugin, but hate the spammers! thre is a good plugin called ‘Anti Spam Bot’ that I have read is supposed to be good, I haven’t tried it yet. Moderating all comments sometimes is very time consuming! Aside from that it is a great way to get people to read and contribute on your blog and also means that people can get the backlinks they need for webpages and drive more traffic to their sites too! Thanks!
I think that Keywordluv brings a lot of additional traffic to one´s blog. You get more unique content which is also a ranking factor for the google bot. So, the owner and the blogger take advantage from this system.

Keyword love is always useful for getting traffic from all around. But Spammer do miss use of these things.Keyword love will help you to present your site to each and every relevant person.
I think keywordluv is one of the best plug ins ever developed. It gives an opportunity for bloggers to help and connect to each other.
KeywordLuv and CommentLuv are very helpful for bloggers who need backlinks. And for the blogs that install it, can increase the traffic.

keywordluv is fantastic for making your blogs more popular, and has helped me inmensly. looking forward to more developments of the plug-in!
I have seen this plugin on a couple websites now, how is this better than comment luv?
Hey Joe, keywordluv works in combination with other plugins such as commentluv and is not a replacement for it. They do separate features. Keywordluv is however built into the new Commentluv Premium so if you upgrade you’ll already have it. It’s a good plugin for sure.
Kim
I’d be interested in learning how this can affect your Google pr since its gotten so ticky about the dofollow links.
The Nerdy Nurse invites you to read…Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
KeywordLuv only affects the anchor text itself. Unless your also running a dofollow plugin (as I do) the links will remain nofollow. Google is actually still strongly favoring good anchor text and likely to continue doing so. However, as with allowing keywords in the name field in general, it can dilute keyword density of the page. However, I still not only prefer to let people enter it that way but will strip out anchor text of those who can’t be bothered to comment with Name @ keywords so I can get to know them as a person. I want to know my readers personally. If they’re only stopping in for link juice and wont bother to be a person then I don’t feel inclined to give them link love. The people most deserving of all the link love I can give them are my regular readers who not only return time and again but comment and share content. These items are items of appreciation in that way.
Kim
Thanks Kim for this useful review of the keywordluv plugin..
Is it really common to see the keywordluv plugin being used on a site that is nofollow? What purpose would it be serving?
Also, do you believe giving out link juice can retard the pagerank of your own site?
Would like to have your views on these?
Thanks.
Dele, nofollow links still contribute SOME linkjuice. Its only about 10% of what a dofollow link does but there is some. So when you have any link, a link with correct anchor text structure is always worth more than one with pointless anchor text. Yeah this can be run on a nofollow site… but it doesn’t benefit the reader as much of course.
Giving out linkjuice does impact pagerank. However, Google requires “activity” points from comments and social engagement now as well and so there is a reason to risk that to drive engagement.
Kim
I love the commentluv plugin and it shows us tons of useful abilities. This plugin has great benefits in developing a beautiful blog and its optimization. In my opinion, it should be a must-have tool for bloggers these days because of its benefits

Max invites you to read…WoW Power Leveling Guide
Kim – keywordluv and commentluv should be a big part of any serious SEO plan… question for you: you talked about the difference between do-follow and no-follow, how do you think google algo treats links that are ALL do-follow? Do you think this appears unnatural in the eyes of google, and that some sort of mix of no-follow and do-follow should be employed?
Jenna invites you to read…Classical Movie – Whу Іt Remains Relevant Fоr Viewers Today
Hi Kim, great post and great comments to read too. The Keywordluv plugin attracts a large traffic for the fact that it provides an anchor text link. While reading your comments I had a query that, does a link without anchor text is worthless or is it only worthy if it comes from an authority domain.
Great article. I am just starting out with creating a site and I am going to be working on my word press blog soon. I revcently just found out about this plugin. I am defiantly going to test it out. Thanks!!
Does keywordLuv and commentLuv help in filter the spam comments? I know commentLuv fetches the last blog from the URL but how useful is keywordLuv?
Sri, all three, keywordluv, commentluv and dofollow plugins encourage your visitors to comment. It makes it in people’s best interest to hunt you out and leave a comment you’ll approve. The benefits are in increased traffic. However, yes, all three will also increase the amount of spam you receive. I highly recommend installing, at the minimum GASP http://just-ask-kim.com/wordpress-plugin-review-growmap-anti-spambot-plugin/ (akismet sucks it’s got a blacklist in it that winds up in many real comments not even showing up in spam, but most don’t know that). I personally use Commentluv Premium which has commentluv, keywordname (like keywordluv), GASP premium and many other advanced tools and positively rocks.
