Indoor Call Quality
Trouble Getting Your Cellular Signal In The House? (Or In Certain Rooms?)
One of the big troubles I had when I moved back to the farm about 8 years back was trying to get cell signal in the house. I had call-quality signal outside, but dead space inside… especially in rooms with few windows.
That was when I purchased my first ZBoost (formerly named “Wireless Extender”) which let me put up a small aerial antenna outside and run a coaxial cable to this “repeater” inside.
(It’s important to understand that though this looks and operates similar to a WiFi router – it is NOT for WiFi.)
The unit gave me 8 great years of service but has recently begun flaking out. I’m honestly not sure if it’s the unit or a sign of how much cellular technology and bandwidth has changed in 7 or 8 years (which I think is more likely the problem).
These are not cheap. They run from $250 to $550 depending on exactly what you need to accomplish and a bunch of criteria… but my original one was TOTALLY worth the cost!
(Honestly, it’s the difference between no bars inside vs two bars inside, which is just slightly lower than I have outside.)
Not sure which extender you need? There’s a handy chart on their website.
I also suggest reading not only the FAQ but also the installation directions as SOME of the extenders require some high differential to get the best performance.
You can order directly from the company (which is likely the best for warranty support) or you can save some money by double-checking prices on Amazon (particularly to save on shipping if you have Amazon Prime).
This is the unit that I just ordered on Amazon. I selected this one, using the handy chart, by selecting for “low outdoor signal”, enough square feet of reach, and then Verizon LTE.
I also ordered a J-mount antenna bar which I’m likely going to need to get the directional antenna installed (although I have my former mounting kit from the original as well). (You could also get both on the zBoost website if you wanted.)
I have two elderly family members and a young one in the family too and it’s important that I be reachable by phone… so for me, this will give me my lifeline for the family back! I can’t wait till my new one arrives!
If you struggle with crappy reception in your home or office I highly suggest looking into a zBoost!
Do you or anyone you know struggle to get good reception in the house?

PS: Can’t install an outside antenna? Look through their antennae page and find the window mount antenna! It’s not quite as strong but it can do the job in many situations.
I am not an affiliate of zBoost and have not received any compensation from them.
However, the Amazon links are affiliate links and if you purchase within 24hrs of
clicking them, I’ll receive a very small commission.
